A major overhaul in 2023.

Professional Billing (known as Evaluation and Management or E&M) refers to levels of service for clinical encounters translating to professional fees. These rules are nuanced and often not covered in training. Additionally, there was a major revision for our ambulatory care in 2021 that has now undergone a similar major overhaul in the inpatient, observation, nursing home, emergency medicine, and consult space in 2023. The good news is that these changes were positive – they reduced the arbitrary burden of clinically irrelevant information – and are also welcome in aligning the framework for these care environments.
