Amy Berscheid, Supervisor Laundry Services

The laundry department is always busy. That’s what I love about the job. There’s never any downtime. It’s always go time and I love that. I love being able to organize things and get things going. I’ve always been a person who enjoyed the challenge and if I saw something broken I wanted to fix it – I still feel that way. That’s what’s really exciting about this job. There’s always something we can do better, improve on, or tweak until we find a good solution. And that’s one thing I love about my team, too. They aren’t afraid to try new things. We just try it and if it doesn’t work, we try something else. Even though we’re in the oldest part of the hospital where it’s small and cramped, we’re going to hit close to 5 million pounds of laundry this year. It helps that our washing machines are bigger than my SUV!

When I’m facing a challenge or have a hard decision to make, I think of my grandparents. They were farmers and always looked out for the little guy. My grandpa kind of took the place of a dad in my life. We were so close. I still feel them both so close all the time. They were very hard workers and very loving. Everything that I aspire to be.
