Med School

Precepting

As our medical school prepares to open its doors in August 2025, we are preparing to welcome an inaugural class of 24 students.

To embark on this new initiative, we are initiating pilot clerkships involving current students from Twin Cities and Duluth. Our surgery pilot commenced in February and will be followed by pilot clerkships in Internal Medicine, Pediatrics, and Family Medicine in May. These rotations, fundamental for students, will be established in collaboration with department leads at the University of Minnesota.

Each rotation spans 4 weeks, except for Internal Medicine, which extends to an 8-week duration. The clerkships will be overseen by site directors representing the different specialties alongside a cohort of community instructors (preceptors) contributing their valuable clinical expertise.

Our collaboration with the University of Minnesota empowers clinical preceptors to prioritize delivering an outstanding clinical experience for the students. Comprehensive objectives, assessments, and didactic materials have already been developed by the team at the University and are being provided to students engaged in clinical rotations across the state.

Precepting: Practical Training. Purposeful Work.
