Bonnie Wiehoff, Administrative Assistant, Spiritual Care
I have three older sisters who are all nurses, so health care has always been a part of our family. I took a different path and started working as a receptionist in spiritual care at St. Cloud Hospital in 1979. For many years, I worked part time because my husband’s family owned a business that I helped with. But because my daughter had a neurodegenerative disease, we closed the business to take care of her. We spent a lot of time at St. Cloud Hospital with my daughter. We also received care in the Twin Cities, but I wanted to be here. St. Cloud Hospital just felt like home.
My daughter passed away, but I’ll never forget the way people cared for us. I remember a physician who would kneel down beside my daughter at her bedside instead of standing at the end of the bed. I remember several nurses who came to see us right before we left the hospital, even though they were no longer caring for her at that time. Those little things made a huge difference.
Now I’m back working in spiritual care as an administrative assistant so it’s come full circle. I’m fortunate to be here and I love our group. It’s been a wonderful experience.
