E&M Fireside Chat: Emergency—What’s in a Level 4/5?
Major E&M changes have occurred for emergency medicine services as of January 2023! As you may have noticed, there are fewer pathways to a level 4/5 (highest level of service, high complexity medical decision-making) within these new rules. Join while we look in detail on the clinical scenarios that may justify a level 4/5 emergency medicine visit. We will review some real-life examples for teaching points so that we all might develop our skill set in demonstrating the complexity of emergency medicine within this new paradigm.
Objectives
Identical content will be offered at each session. Clinical Partners need only attend one. At the conclusion of this presentation participants will:
- Understand the 2023 Evaluation and Management (E&M) rule changes affecting emergency medicine services, with particular focus on problem definitions at higher levels of service
- Identify opportunities to incorporate these changes in your documentation workflow
Presenters
Jessie Roske, MD, Medical Director for Clinical Documentation Integrity
