Major E&M change is coming to Emergency Medicine services! We have been anticipating change to other areas since the 2021 rule changes for ambulatory visits. The changes moving through E/M rules are positive – generally they remove regulation around unnecessary detail leading to note bloat. However, they still represent change and the necessity to develop new skill sets. This obviously has significant impact on whether the complexity of the clinical encounter you had is fully represented in the documentation for the appropriate level of service.
