Jon Broman, RN, ICU

When I was 15 years old, I was riding my bike to football practice and I was hit by a car. I broke both my legs and tore some ligaments. I ended up in the hospital for 11 days, followed by months and months of rehab and more surgeries. I had two full leg casts from August through November that year. But I recovered and the next year I was back to skiing and participating in sports, so things turned out well for me. Through that experience, I became close with the nurses, physicians and physical therapists who helped me during my recovery. That was the turning point for me and what made me interested in pursuing a career in health care.

I’ve been working in the ICU for almost 20 years. I’ve been here long enough that I feel confident I can handle any situation that comes through the doors. If things get overwhelming I know that I have an amazing team behind me that will support me. Sometimes that means helping with patient care assignment changes or just popping in for five minutes to help each other out. That’s just the way we work. I really respect our whole team here at St. Cloud Hospital – we have a wonderful unit.”
