My Why: David Buhl, PA
Growing up, I had a mother who was a nurse. I had an aunt who was a nurse, too. I remember that oftentimes they’d be talking about their jobs. Sometimes as a kid I would go through my mom’s old nursing textbooks. So, I always kind of had a familiarity with healthcare from as long ago as I can remember. In high school, my favorite classes were science and biology. From there, I became more interested in the human body. Eventually, I went to the University of Minnesota and double majored in physiology and psychology — kind of the whole body was what I was thinking at the time and probably headed toward physical therapy.

…it’s also about making a personal connection.
There is science and the objective data behind everything, but it’s also about making a personal connection. The patient is relying on me to help them make decisions; hard decisions that sometimes they really don’t know anything about. That’s the way I can contribute to the community and make a positive impact. It’s rewarding to actually get to see it firsthand.
