Objectives

Dr. Minces will discuss the topic of Orthopedic Emergencies with Patrick Osborn, MD. At the conclusion of this presentation, participants should be able to:

  1. Identify the signs and symptoms consistent with extremity Acute Compartment Syndrome. 
  2. Understand basic steps in the initial evaluation and treatment of extremity injuries, including history and physical examination, radiographic evaluation and immobilization. 
  3. Understand principles to evaluate orthopedic infections including soft tissue infections, postoperative infections, septic joints and necrotizing infections. 
  4. Improve knowledge of venous thromboembolic prophylaxis for orthopedic trauma patients. 
  5. Be familiar with access to national orthopedic Clinical Practice Guidelines and Appropriate Use Criteria.
