Opioid Use Disorder

CME Presentation on TEAMS

Wednesday, August 13th @ 7am on TEAMS
Thursday, August 21st @ 12:15pm on TEAMS

Join Alix Stalmakov, DNP, PMHNP-BC, and Andrea Petersen, MSN, PMHNP, for a clinical update on Opioid Use Disorder.

In the presentation and pre-CME podcast conversation, Stalmakov and Petersen delve into the complexities of opioid use disorder, focusing on the importance of education for healthcare providers regarding treatment options such as buprenorphine and Suboxone. The speakers discuss the stigma surrounding opioid use disorder, the management of withdrawal symptoms, and the transition from full agonist opioids to partial agonists. They also explore the differences between inpatient and outpatient treatment options, referral processes, and the significance of addressing co-occurring mental health issues in addiction treatment.

The Science of Practicing Medicine CME+Podcast series is an effort to provide ongoing, consistent, and relevant education for our colleagues. Join the CME on TEAMS.

Based on case reports, with opioid use disorder, people do best if they’re on Suboxone for at least a year, sometimes two. If stopped earlier, we see a high rate of returning to use or other negative outcomes.

From the acute care setting, patients immediately feel better on Suboxone. They want to go to work again. Not preoccupied by cravings all day long. They become functional people, able to manage their addiction much better.
