Tiffany Tangen, RN, Core Charge Nurse

Tiffany Tangen

My dad worked for UPS his whole life. He was a hard worker, driven and someone who would get it done from start to finish. I think I get my work ethic from my dad. And I definitely get my compassion from my mom. She was the caretaker for everyone that got sick in my family. When she was 32, she cared for her mother who was dying. She then cared for her father, and then her grandparents – she took care of them all. She definitely lived out her passion through her family.

In the family birthing center, we become part of our families’ memories forever. You have to go through whatever the patient is going through – it might be their first baby, their sixth baby, a loss, an adoption, or a surrogacy. We also take care of a lot of high-risk patients. There are so many different experiences. It’s important to be positive. You have three seconds to make a first impression and that’s it. Whatever you do in those three seconds will either be memorable in a positive way, or the patient will feel like, ‘She’s just not it for me today.’ You don’t have to change the world, just change the small things.
