Don’t Get Scammed

The FBI has issued a warning to medical providers nationwide about a fraud scheme targeting them. The warning summarized multiple instances in which criminals contacted medical providers by phone, email and mail, claiming to be from either a state’s Board of Medicine, the U.S. Department of Justice and/or the Drug Enforcement Administration.

…criminals claimed that the provider was under federal investigation for “illegal drug trafficking and money laundering”

In some instances, the criminals advised a provider that his or her medical license had been suspended, and then demanded to be wired payment immediately to avoid legal action. On other occasions, criminals claimed that the provider was under federal investigation for “illegal drug trafficking and money laundering” or “opioid distribution,” and that immediate payment was required to prevent professional license suspension. Remember, if you receive communication like this and if feels off, there’s a good chance it is.
