CentraCare Performance Excellence is excited to announce the launch of our continuous clinical education series with CME credit called The Science of Practicing Medicine. With this endeavor we will provide ongoing, consistent, and relevant education for our colleagues. Join Infectious Disease expert, Lucio Minces, MD, for clinical discussions with CentraCare physicians. Each CME session will explore significant updates on clinical standards.

The occurrence of C. diff cases, whether with onset inpatient or outpatient, is a reflection of antibiotic use and overuse.

In the first session, Dr. Minces will provide an update on Clostridium difficile infection. Participants can expect the discussion to include:

  1. How to distinguish C. diff colonization vs. true initial or recurrent infection
  2. C. diff rates as a surrogate marker for the quality of antibiotic stewardship
  3. How to appropriately use the diagnostic tools available within the system for optimal management
  4. How to manage active disease based on the newest guideline recommendations
  5. What we are currently doing to reduce the current recurrence rate of C. diff
